Step 1: Prepare the Petal and Leaf Templates Obtain rose petals and leaf templates. Order SVG File templates from catchingcolorflies.com using my link. Ruby Red Rose SVG File SKU 00162, Fern SVG file SKU0040, Use a Pedal of the Ruby Red Rose for the Sepal Green Cardstock. Print and cut out the templates on ruby red cardstock for petals and green cardstock for leaves and sepals. Step 2: Cut the Petals, Sepal, and Leaves Using scissors or a cutting machine, cut the petals and leaves according to the templates. For a full rose, you'll typically need: 6 large petals 5 small petals for the Bud's 1 Rose Pedal for the Sepal Green Cardstock 2-3 leaves 3 Ferns, 1 Small and 2 Medium ***Must Watch the Video, Steps 3 through 10 This is a MUST to do! Watch the Video. This is important because handcrafting this Ruby Rose took me about 8 months to conquer. Abbi Kirsten once told me, "Tim, you need to practice, practice, and more practice." Step 3: You are the Lucky ones to get one of my Mother Nature's looking floral stems. Step 4: Shape the Petals Use a bone folder or the edge of scissors to curl the edges of each petal outward, giving them a natural look, or a wood dowel 1/4" Step 5: Assemble the Ruby Red Rose Once the pedals are shaped, we will lay the first one on the bottom of the flower. Then, pedals 2, 3, and 4 will be laid on each Pedal, crisscrossing each pedal and securing them with hot glue. We will roll pedals 5 and 6 tightly and place 5 onto pedal 4, and Pedal 6 will go in the middle of Pedal 5. Step 6: Attach the Sepal and Stem Using the Ruby Rose SVG file and 1 pedal, cut a Sepal (the green part at the base of the rose) from green cardstock. Before you Hot Glue the Sepal to the bottom of the rose, we need to create a small hole for the floral wire. Then, Insert an 18-gauge floral wire into the base of the rose to serve as the stem. Secure it with hot glue. Wrap floral tape around the base and down the length of the wire to create a realistic-looking stem. Step 7: Create the Baby Bud Roses Repeat steps 1-6, but use only small and medium petals to create smaller, bud-like roses. Step 8: Make the Leaves Cut out leaf shapes from green cardstock using the templates. Use the bone folder to add veins by scoring lines onto each leaf. Step 9: Fern Attach a short piece of floral wire to the back of each leaf with hot glue, then wrap with floral tape. Step 10: Assemble the Arrangement Arrange the full rose, baby bud roses, and leaves together, adjusting the floral wire stems as needed to achieve your desired composition. Place the completed arrangement into your hand-painted vase.
